Heat Pump Repairs and Servicing in Auckland
It’s not without reasons that heat pump manufacturers always recommend an annual service in the manual. Because most units are going non-stop, dealing with dust, pollen, humidity, and temperature swings, there’s a lot of wear and tear on the system. If they don’t get tuned up every year, you’ll see heating and cooling efficiency drop, power bills climb, and eventually something will fail. Commercial systems, which work harder, will need a service every three to six months.
Varcoe is an IQP (Independent Qualified Person) registered company, so other than the servicing, we can also handle the compliance side – building warrant of fitness inspections, mechanical ventilation checks, and so on.
For the filters, you can swap them out every three months yourself if you want. Or just call us, and we’ll handle it.
What's Included in Annual Maintenance
Indoor service includes:
- Cleaning and disinfecting the unit to prevent bacteria build-up on the coil and throughout the unit
- Cleaning filters and odour covers
- Visually inspect electrical terminals and components
- Check electrical terminals and components
- Check evaporator coils
- Check fan blades for mould
- Running the unit in both heating and cooling mode to check air temperatures
Outdoor unit service includes:
- Check for obstructions in and around the unit, coil, drain and electronics to improve efficiency and performance
- Visually inspect electrical terminals for tightness
- Check refrigerant gas levels are satisfactory
- Clean the outside of the casing
The Pressure Cleaner
Back in 2015, we got a purpose-built pressure cleaner specifically for heat pump coils. With it, we can clean them properly and efficiently without damaging anything. Your unit looks brand new after – and actually performs like it too. The cost is nothing compared to what you save. A well-maintained heat pump can cut your heating bill in half.
And if you’ve got allergies? Regular servicing can actually make a difference. Dirty coils mean more dust and particles floating around, so a clean system means cleaner air for the whole family.
When to Service Your Heat Pump
Ideally once a year. If you notice it’s not blowing as cold (or hot) as it used to, or you hear strange noises – don’t wait. Call us, and we’ll come and have a look. Sometimes a quick service fixes it, but other times, there’s something else going on that needs attention.
